Serment de Paris - March 8th, 2017

As part of the World Day of Women's Rights, the Ambassador went to the Quai d'Orsay on March 8th, 2017, for the presentation of the "Serment de Paris".

It was an opportunity to recall that women are all too often victims of sexual, physical or psychological violence all over the world and to appeal to the international community to mobilize women's rights.

Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the Ministry of Families, Children and Women's Rights, the ceremony was opened by Ministers Jean-Marc Ayrault and Laurence Rossignol.

The reading of the "Serment de Paris" was preceded by two conferences, in the presence of personalities and great international witnesses:

- "For a universal right to sexual and reproductive health", including the testimonies of Djemila Benhabib, Quebec writer and activist, Pinar Selek, Turkish sociologist and feminist, Françoise Sivignon, President of Médecins du Monde and Barbara Nowacka, Polish politician , member of the "Save Women" committee, distinguished by the Simone de Beauvoir Prize in January 2017.

- "Prevent, act and rebuild: the challenges of the fight against violence against women", including the testimony of Kuljit Kaur, Indian activist, Lucia Aviles, Spanish judge, Fatou Bensouda, Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court of The Hague ; Irene Natividad, president of the Global Summit of Women and American Democrat.

The debates were punctuated by the broadcast of video messages sent by international personalities who support this approach, including Melinda Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Finally, after reading the oath by Mrs. Laurence Rossignol, Minister of Families, Childhood and Women's Rights, the President of the Republic closed the event.
