16th Francophonie Summit in Madagascar

The 16th Francophonie Summit was held from November 22 to 27, 2016 in Madagascar.

The first part was held on November 22nd with the Permanent Council of La Francophonie (CPF), followed by the Ministerial Conference on November 23rd and 24th.

The Summit ended with the adoption by the Heads of State and Government of the Antananarivo Declaration. The theme of the declaration was "Shared Growth and Responsible Development: Conditions for the Stability of the World and the Francophone World".

More than 6500 participants, including 20 Heads of State and Government and nearly 2,500 delegates took part in the meeting, stressing the importance of the common values ​​shared by Francophone States and Governments.

H.E. M. Claude Cottalorda, Personal Representative of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and the Princely Government, was present throughout the summit, accompanied by his colleagues, Mrs Dusaintpère ​​and Mr. Raymond.

Mr. Gilles Tonelli, Government Counselor for Foreign Affairs of Monaco, led the delegation for the Ministerial Conference (CMF), and H.E. Mr. Serge Telle, Minister of State of the Principality of Monaco, took part in the Summit on November 26th and 27th.

In addition to the Final Declaration, the Summit also adopted 13 resolutions on the promotion of gender equality, women's empowerment, vocational and technical training, and investment in the health sector.

Finally, the Madagascar Summit marks the entry into the OIF of three new observer members: South Korea, Argentina, Canada-Ontario and a new associate member, New Caledonia, bringing the number of Member States and Governments to 84.

Togo will host the next Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie (2017), and Monaco has been chosen for the 2019 Ministerial Conference.

At the end of the conference, Armenia was designated to host the Francophonie Summit to be held in 2018. Tunisia will organize the 18th Summit in 2020, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Organization.
