The 39th meeting of the Assembly of Parties of the European Satellite Telecommunications Organisation (Eutelsat) was held on 22 and 23 April 2015 in Paris. Mr Frédéric Labarrère, the Embassy’s First Counsellor, represented the Principality at the meeting of the Assembly of Parties, which was attended by a majority of the 49 member states. Discussions focused on a range of subjects including the work of the United Nations on the viability of space activities, the need to protect outer space from pollution and current problems with deliberate jamming and piracy of satellite transmissions.

The Assembly also heard information about the activities of EUTELSAT IGO, which aims to achieve one of the UN Millennium Development Goals: bridging the digital divide through offering broadband services at an affordable price to populations who have limited or no access to the Internet.

Monaco representative Mr Labarrère was Vice Chair of the General Assembly, having been unanimously re-elected to the post by participants.
