Living in France
Civil status
Monegasque nationals who wish to live and work in France must hold a valid identity card or passport. No residence or work permit is required.
Driving licence
You can drive in France on your Monegasque licence for a year.
There are four conditions:
- You must be the minimum age required in France to drive vehicles in the equivalent licence category
- Your right to drive must not have been suspended, withdrawn or cancelled in the country in which your licence was issued
- Your right to drive must not have been cancelled or invalidated in France before you obtained your foreign licence
- You must comply with the medical conditions indicated on your licence (for example, requirement to wear glasses)
Exchanging a foreign licence for a French licence
To be able to continue driving in France after a year, you must apply to exchange your foreign licence for a French licence.
If you do not apply to exchange your licence within this timeframe, or if your licence cannot be exchanged, you will no longer be able to drive in France on your foreign licence and you will need to pass a French driving test.
